SNOW BACK IN THE FORECAST – HEAVY FALLS NOW POSSIBLE FOR PARTS OF THE REGION.

Please note we’ve seen changes in content overnight – source town pages and our ‘Live Weather Feed’ for the latest – 5:15am Thursday morning 4/07/2019

Our wintry outbreak remains on track for later stages of tomorrow and while parts of Canterbury will escape with relatively light rainfall totals & associated snowfall accumulations parts of North Canterbury look most exposed where snow showers could lower to around 500-600m in heavier falls on Friday & Saturday.

We’re currently looking at around 40-50cm of fresh snow for the Mt Lyford Ski field (1500m +) from late Thursday evening through to Saturday evening. Cross your fingers & toes for local skiers. We expect lighter accumulations elsewhere with Mt Hutt & Porters battling it out for 2nd place.

For many eastern areas, from around Leeston north to Kaikoura it’s set to be an extended period of wintry weather with frequent showers, strong cold southerlies and snow showers about the eastern hills. In terms of rainfall totals the Kaikoura District will come out on top with anywhere between 25-45mm possible in grand total.

Winds will also ‘pack a punch’ for Coastal Canterbury between Banks Peninsula and Kaikoura, where gale force southerlies are likely about the Kaikoura Coast.

Remember to source your town pages for specific details there will be contrast across the region for the remainder of the week.

•We currently have a road snowfall warning in place for Porters & Lewis Pass on Friday. Read more via our member link Alpine Road Snowfall Warning.
