💧🌀 CONDITIONS SET TO DETERIORATE THIS EVENING – STRONG WINDS RAMPING UP, HEAVY RAIN & LOWERING SNOW LEVELS.

Good afternoon. It’s set to be a wild & stormy night across Canterbury, with strong southerlies across the Canterbury Plains, reaching gale force about the Kaikoura Coast and Banks Peninsula.

💧Rain will become more widespread this evening, with heavy & widespread falls through the night.

❄Snow will gradually lower about the ranges and higher hill country tonight.

📌 Please note – we don’t expect snow to fall about Porters & Arthur’s Pass. Snow showers may lower to around 1100-1200m, with more significant accumulations to around 1500m providing a novelty factor rather than any practical implications.

➡️ We have more wild weather on the way, with heavy falls about the Main Divide & Headwaters on Thursday and another cold southwest blast on Friday, with widespread thunderstorms possibly across the Canterbury Plains & Coast.

💧🌀 BECOMING WETTER, COLDER AND WINDIER TODAY – CWU WARNING IN PLACE.

➡️ Weather of significance on Thursday (Main Divide) & Friday - thunderstorms for the Canterbury Plains & Coast.

Good morning Canterbury. A large area of low-pressure tracks over Central New Zealand today, bringing widespread rain across the entire region.

➡️From midday southerlies will start to strengthen, rising to gale force this evening about the Coastal Canterbury. Additionally, as our cooler southerly flow becomes more established snow levels will start to lower; falling to around 1100m tonight, with significant falls above 1500-1600m.

❄40cm-50cm may accumulate around 1700m + between Fairlie and Mt Hutt

📌 This system will play out at various levels of intensity through the day and we expect more sustained and heavier falls in parts of South & Mid Canterbury where our warning remains in place. Source our town pages for specific details.

💧An active system will move up the West Coast of the South Island on Thursday, bringing heavy and significant rainfall totals. 🌩 Widespread storms. We’re looking at quite a volatile situation on Friday, with the possibility of widespread thunderstorms; possibly severe for the Canterbury Plains & Coast.

💧WILD WEATHER ON TRACK FOR TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY.

⚠️ HEAVY RAIN - CWU WARNING IN PLACE.

Our Tuesday is looking incredibly bleak, with widespread rain and now heavy and sustained falls across parts of South & Mid Canterbury. The exposed hill country between Fairlie and Mt Hutt will receive significant rainfall and we now have a warning in place with full details.

Slips and surface flooding are now all distinct threats in those worst hit feed zone areas.

🌀In addition to heavy rain, we can also expect strengthening southerlies from midday; rising to gale about Coastal Canterbury, with an emphasis on Banks Peninsula and the Kaikoura Coast at night, where gales may reach 100km/hr.

❄Snow will also fall about the higher hills and ranges; with over 50cm possible above 1700m in our feed zone; lighter falls may accumulate to around 1000m.

📌 Our warnings are similar to the Government provider; just with more intensity, detail and specific local information for the Canterbury Region.
