Clifftop Cabins – Kaikoura

Clifftop Cabins are undoubtedly one of the best spots to stay in Kaikoura – the view, the interior, the outdoor tub… perfection.

When I first arrived at my cabin ‘Dover’ (the first of 3 in a line) I immediately was in awe of the view. It was late afternoon, approaching sunset, and the view of the  Kaikoura Ranges was magnificent with some snow still remaining. Below the mountains, you can see most of the town, including various shops, eateries, tourism centres, and motels.

Most visitors to Kaikoura take a drive up to the Kaikoura lookout to experience these views – but staying in the Clifftop Cabins gives you that view, the whole time.

Inside was a large comfortable bed, small kitchen, sofa, TV, and bathroom with shower. Amenities were provided, and there were even games to keep you busy, as well as a snazzy nespresso coffee machine (yay!).

Stepping outside is an external kitchen area with stovetop, and stool seating to soak up the views. Around the side of the cabin I found a relaxing grass area with a picnic table, exclusive for my cabin’s use.

One of the best parts is definitely the spacious outdoor tub. With bubble bath, and bath salts provided, this was the ultimate relaxation with the best views of Kaikoura.

Kaikoura is a beautiful little town, around 2 hours drive from Christchurch making it a well known destination for Cantabrians. Some of the key activities I have done on previous visits included whale watching (by boat), whale watching by plane (where I saw hundreds of pilot whales!), ocean kayaking past seals, walking around the peninsula, and exploring the town. It’s the perfect weekend holiday, or you can stay a little longer if you have the time.

Clifftop Cabins is a spot I would absolutely stay at again, and I recommend it to anyone visiting Kaikoura who loves a good view, privacy, and relaxation, whilst still being so close to town.
