MORE WINTRY WEATHER TAKES AIM THIS WEEKEND.

MORE SNOW & RAIN ON THE WAY THIS WEEKEND.

Another active cold front will make its presence felt on Saturday with widespread rain and snow about the Canterbury Foothills & High Country.

Conditions will deteriorate early Saturday morning with gale force southerlies developing; possibly reaching 100km/hr about Banks Peninsula and the Kaikoura Coast on front arrival.

Snow will fall about a number of our higher villages and affect our alpine passes and higher roads around the 400m ‘mark’.  Road restrictions and closures are likely for a time. This front has as a bit of a ‘punch’ and snow is likely to cause blizzard type conditions about the hill country Saturday afternoon & evening before easing back overnight.

Snow will provide stress for livestock especially new-borns about Banks Peninsula, the high country, foothills and even upper parts of the Canterbury Plains with sleety falls.

For local ski areas more ‘healthy’ accumulations are likely; more significant about the eastern ranges Mt Lyford, Mt Hutt & Porters which will be fighting it out for the higher accumulations on Sunday morning.

Please note snow is likely to close most fields on Saturday; not only because of the higher intensity snow, but the associated gale force southerlies.

•We currently have a snow ‘Watch’ in place and an ‘Alpine Road Snowfall Warning with full details. Our warning content provides superior detail and intensity to that of the Government provider and is exclusive to all members; you’ll hear it first with our warning content. Check it out and compare.

Keep up to date with our ‘Live Weather Feed’ and town pages for all the latest developments and specific details for your town and areas.
