UNSETTLED LABOUR WEEKEND

SATURDAY: Mainly fine morning, with high cloud. Southerly change around midday, with showers and cold southerlies. Brief light snow above 1100m for the eastern ranges. Any shower ‘activity’ will clear at night.  Southerlies will be fresh for a time during the afternoon. Strong westerlies & rain near the Main Divide. Make the most of the morning! H: 15-17 L: 5-7

SUNDAY: Mostly fine and mild across the region. Sunny, with high cloud. Possible early cloudy periods will burn off about the coast north of Banks Peninsula.Light winds across the Canterbury Plains & coastal areas.  Weak SW wind change may produce the isolated shower across the Canterbury Plains. Rain near the Main Divide, with strong to gale force westerlies. H: 17-19 L: 6-8

MONDAY: Mostly fine, with sunny skies and high cloud out east during the morning. Late afternoon southerly change, with showers & colder southerlies. Snow above 1100m about the eastern ranges. Mild temperatures early on, cooler into the afternoon. Heavy rain near the Main Divide, with scattered spill over showers possible reaching the Canterbury. H: 16-18 L: 5-7

WETTEST TOWN: Arthur’s Pass Village, areas within 20km of the Main Divide. Sunday night & Monday look extremely wet, with heavy falls near the Main Divide.

WARMEST PLACE: Hanmer Springs, or Akaroa on Sunday.

SNOW: Above 1400m near the Main Divide. Significant falls possible west of the Divide at higher elevations – 1700m +. We may see a light dusting of snow about the eastern ranges on Saturday above 1200m, 3-5cm possible & again on Monday afternoon/evening

CWU PICK: As a general rule east is best, our pick is Akaroa & Hanmer Springs. Some showers on Saturday afternoon & again later on Monday.
