COAST TO COAST FORECAST FOR SATURDAY.

COAST TO COAST FORECAST – Issued 3:50am Saturday morning 9/02/2019.

TODAY.

A mostly cloudy and humid start at Kumara. Misty rain or drizzle patches, a few ‘bands’ of brief heavier rain possible (65-70% of rain at 6am, start.) Temperatures around 14-16 degrees at Kumara at the start line. Light northerly or nor-west winds at the start. Improving conditions towards Goats Pass, with increasing sunny spells and warmer conditions.

Sunny, with a light veil of high cloud east of the Goats Pass. Very warm conditions. Nor-west winds, gusty at times especially at the head of the Deception Valley and down the Minga river. Gusts may approach 40-50km/hr about exposed upper sections.

Across the Canterbury Plains – sunny and warm with nor-west winds, gusty at times. Winds making the transition to fresh NE closer to New Brighton -20-30km out, fresh and persistent 20-25km/hr. Temperatures across the Canterbury Plains & east of Goats Pass 26-29 degrees, possibly 30 degrees in sheltered spots; cooling down closer to New Brighton.

Freezing Levels: 3400m +

Precipitation.

Intensity of any rain is likely to be low, but we may see a few brief heavier falls before 8am west of Goat Pass. Rainfall totals are likely to remain below 10mm  before 10am. We have high confidence there will be minimal effect on streams & rivers in the area. Perhaps effecting visibility more than anything and a little more slippery on those more traditional dry sections.
