COAST TO COAST 2020 – SHOWERS & RAIN RISK FOR SATURDAY.

REMAINDER OF THE THURSDAY.

Isolated showers about the Main Divide & Canterbury Headwaters will clear this afternoon. Additional rainfall about headwaters 4-7mm ‘max’ by 4pm.

 

FRIDAY SUMMARY.

•A fine day. Areas of low cloud or fog possible early on, especially about Aickens Corner. Light winds for most part; tending gusty nor-west during the afternoon about Goats Pass and through the Interior.

•Pleasant conditions and temperatures and no rain of significance.

 

SATURDAY SUMMARY.

•A cloudy start, with possibly a few sunny spells about the West Coast. Light SW winds at the start line. Modest temperatures.

•A southwest change moves north from late morning bringing showers to the Main Divide/Canterbury Headwaters around 11am, through early stages of the afternoon. Gusty to strong NW winds about Goats Pass, before turning southwest around midday.

•Cooler southerlies and scattered showers and some rain developing about the Canterbury Plains (Darfield and Christchurch around 11:30am-1pm.) Low chance of thunder.

•Rain & showers and cooler southerlies look set to ease from 6-7pm.

•The southerly change will be fresh across the Canterbury Plains and approach to Christchurch; perhaps strong on front arrival.

 

KEY POINTS.

•Friday will be the better of the two days.

•Conditions will slowly deteriorate on Saturday, with more cloud and rain potential as the day progresses. For most part  the morning should be relatively dry. Shower and rain risk increase from midday, with showers likely to feature through the afternoon and evening.

•Rainfall totals won’t be of significance on Saturday. Main Divide/Headwaters: 5-10mm max; similar to the Canterbury Plains 5-8mm between midday and 6pm.
